ASTA Tool Has Helped Advisors Recover Unpaid Hotel Commissions

The American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) is reporting early traction from its Report a Hotel Commission Issue tool, a resource designed to help travel advisors resolve delayed or unpaid hotel commission issues.

Launched last fall, the initiative has helped recover nearly $15,000 in unpaid commissions, and ASTA is now working toward a broader goal of recovering $100,000 in hotel commissions in 2026 while also driving long-term improvements in hotel payment practices.

The tool enables ASTA members to submit commission inquiries through an online process, allowing the organization to track trends, escalate unresolved cases and engage with hotels in various ways, including the Hotel Watch List, which currently lists 10 hotels flagged by member advisors for delayed payment or unpaid commissions.

ASTA expects both the number of recovered commissions and the number of hotels listed to grow significantly as the adoption of the tool expands across the industry.

“Commissions earned are commissions owed, period,” said Zane Kerby, ASTA president and CEO of ASTA. “ASTA will not stand by while our members are ignored or forced to chase money they are rightfully due. The reporting tool and Hotel Watch List exist to apply real pressure and get advisors paid. The tools are already working with nearly $15,000 in commissions collected. If a hotel doesn’t want to be called out to our members as a bad actor or deal with ASTA’s dispute resolution process, the answer is simple: Pay commissions on time.”
